North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend the Victory Parade in Beijing, dedicated to the official surrender of Japan during World War II. This was reported on August 28 by Reuters with reference to the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
"Foreign leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and DPRK leader Kim Jong-un, will take part in a large-scale military parade in Beijing," the article says.
The parade will be attended by heads of state and government from 26 countries. Among them are President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of Iran Masoud Peseshkian, President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto and Speaker of the National Assembly of South Korea Woo Won Sik.
The South China Morning Post (SCMP) newspaper reported on August 18 that the ambassadors of the EU countries are considering the possibility of ignoring the military parade in Beijing because of the possible presence of Putin on it. There are no strict restrictions regarding the visit of European diplomats to the parade, but some of them still decided to refuse to participate, Izvestia reminds.
