Chisinau is blocking the work of the consular department and diplomatic mail of the Russian Embassy. This was announced today, on August 26, by the diplomatic mission, noting numerous appeals from compatriots living in the region in connection with delays in processing documents.
"The only source of this problem is the Moldovan side, which has been unreasonably preventing the delivery of the relevant forms by the diplomatic mail of our state for several months. We regard this as another unfriendly step of the official Chisinau," the statement emphasizes.
The embassy added that no other country in the world applies such destructive practices.
Earlier, Russian Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova Oleg Ozerov has already stated that the Moldovan authorities deliberately make it difficult for the Russian Embassy to provide consular services and issue documents to its citizens in Transnistria. According to him, because of these actions, the Russian embassy incurs reputational and material costs, as people pay money for documents and their registration. In this regard, he advised to send complaints to the Moldovan authorities.
"We would like to tell all those who file complaints with the Russian Embassy to send them to the authorities of the Republic of Moldova, who organized outright violence against the Vienna Convention, which, in principle, no one in the world allows," Oleg Ozerov concluded.
Now in Transnistria is home to about 250 thousand Russian citizens. An entry on the issue of exchanging or obtaining a passport is made only electronically through the embassy in Chisinau, and the waiting list for documents exceeds six months.
As EADaily reported, the question of whether residents of Transnistria should receive Russian citizenship in a simplified form has been around for a long time. According to Konstantin Zatulin, a State Duma deputy and director of the Institute of CIS Countries, this meets Russia's geopolitical interests.
