Belgium adopts resolution on Nagorno-Karabakh

The House of Representatives (lower house of the Federal Parliament) of Belgium unanimously adopted a resolution on Nagorno-Karabakh and peace in the South Caucasus, Armenian Ambassador to Belgium Tigran Balayan said.

"The resolution expresses support for the International Committee of the Red Cross and contains an urgent demand to release the Armenian prisoners. The resolution also condemns the false narratives of Baku," the ambassador wrote on the social network X.

The document says that Baku's actions against the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh contradict the norms of international law, and also condemns Baku's rhetoric in the context of "Western Azerbaijan," Sputnik Armenia reports. The resolution calls on the EU to apply targeted sanctions against human rights violators and expand the observer mission. The EU in Armenia, as well as to reconsider EU—Azerbaijan relations if Baku does not demonstrate a real willingness to achieve peace.

A "trial" against representatives of the military-political leadership of Karabakh has been going on in Azerbaijan since January 17. Among the accused are former presidents of Nagorno—Karabakh Arkady Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, Arayik Harutyunyan, ex-Minister of State Ruben Vardanyan, former commander of the Defense Army Levon Mnatsakanyan, his deputy David Manukyan, ex-Foreign Minister David Babayan and ex-Speaker of Parliament David Ishkhanyan.

The case of Ruben Vardanyan has been separated into a separate proceeding. Despite his request to combine the materials with the cases of other defendants, the court decided to consider 400 of the 422 volumes separately.
