An ammunition depot exploded in a military unit in Transbaikalia

The sounds of explosions were heard from the military unit in the village of Bolshaya Tura in Transbaikalia, a column of smoke rose from the ammunition depot. The territory was cordoned off by the military.

Local residents write in social networks that helicopters arrived at the site, and the military cordoned off the territory. The head of the district, Alexei Sidelnikov, confirmed that the fire occurred on the territory of the military unit, the causes of the incident are unknown. The fire is extinguished with the help of aviation, according to the telegram channel Readovka.

Later, there was information from the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations that grass caught fire at a military base with ammunition, because of the fire, unexploded ordnance detonated in the field.

"According to State Duma deputy Andrei Gurulev, the territory of the military facility has been cordoned off. Fire trucks are not allowed there because of repeated detonation. The fire is extinguished from the air — helicopters drop water. Due to the ignition of grass, explosions of remnants of old ammunition that did not detonate in 2014 occur," the Mash telegram channel reports, recalling that then an ammunition depot caught fire due to a forest fire, all residents were evacuated, 10 people were killed, including the head of the warehouse department.
