Russian hockey player Alexander Ovechkin gave President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko a gift — a jersey with his autograph. This was reported by the telegram channel "Pool One" close to the press service of the Belarusian leader.
There are two photos in the message. One of them shows a gift — a jersey with the inscription "To Alexander Grigorievich from OVI (that's what American fans call Ovechkin — EADaily)! All the best!". The second photo shows Alexander Ovechkin together with the charge d'affaires of Belarus in the USA Pavel Shidlovsky. During this meeting, Shidlovsky officially presented Lukashenka's congratulations to the hockey player on becoming the sole NHL record holder for goals in regular championships, and Ovechkin handed over his gift to the Belarusian leader.
Alexander Ovechkin is currently playing in the NHL as a forward for the Washington Capitals. He surpassed the achievement of Canadian hockey player Wayne Gretzky by scoring the 895th goal in a match with the New York Islanders on April 6. The previous achievement lasted 26 years.
