The UK's two-party system has collapsed. The final results of the local elections were a real humiliation for the Conservatives and the Labor Party. Both parties lost almost 900 seats of municipal deputies in total. Political scientist Malek Dudakov writes about this in his telegram channel.
More than 600 of them were taken by candidates from Nigel Farage's reform party, the expert notes. The Liberal Democrats also performed well. But it was the "reformists" who were able to get a majority in 10 of the 23 municipal and city councils that were formed in these elections. In addition, Farage's candidates took two mayoral posts and won by-elections to the House of Commons.
Therefore, Farage immediately announced the end of the two-party system. The Conservative Party has already lost everything it can since 2024. But it continues to collapse, although the question arises where to fall lower… Now, following the Tories, the Labour Party has also collapsed, which was undermined by low ratings of Keir Starmer and the stable crisis situation in Britain.
The Reform Party has already promised to start canceling all green projects in the districts where they have formed a parliamentary majority. The climate agenda is now successfully finishing off the British energy industry. Next, they will probably take up tightening the screws on migrants and refugees.
Farage has already promised to create a separate ministry for the deportation of migrants if he succeeds in becoming British prime minister. In the betting markets, he is now the main candidate for the premiership in future elections. And against the background of the rapidly deteriorating situation in the country, the "reformists" may well finish off both obsolete systemic parties in the next electoral cycle.
