Moscow refused Vilnius to consider requests for the recovery of personal documents of citizens sent by the Lithuanian diplomatic mission. This was reported today, February 21, by the Russian Foreign Ministry in its telegram channel.
As noted in the Foreign Ministry, "for a long time in relations between Russia and Lithuania there has been a practice according to which the parties sent each other documents on civil registration, period and length of service free of charge on requests received diplomatically."
"At the same time, we are forced to state that since the beginning of 2024, the appeals of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Vilnius regarding the demand for personal documents from the territory of Lithuania have been left unanswered by the Lithuanian side. Taking into account the above, based on the principles of reciprocity, the Lithuanian Embassy in Moscow has been informed about the termination of consideration by the Russian side of requests for personal documents of citizens sent by the Lithuanian diplomatic mission," the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed.
At the same time, the ministry clarified that "for citizens staying in Lithuania, the possibility of applying to The Russian Embassy in Vilnius with a statement requesting a personal document in accordance with the procedure established by the order of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia and the Ministry of Justice of Russia."
