Kiev denied Trump's words about talks with Moscow in Munich

Advisor to Vladimir Zelensky Dmitry Litvin said that the words of the American leader Donald Trump about the upcoming February 14 in Munich meeting of representatives of the USA, Russia and Ukraine does not correspond to reality.

"The Ukrainian position remains unchanged... a conversation with the Russians in Munich is not expected," Interfax—Ukraine quoted him as saying.

According to Litvin, Ukraine should first talk to the United States, while Europe should be a participant in "any serious conversation for the sake of real and lasting peace."

"And only an agreed common position should be on the table for negotiations with the Russians. They don't meet Russians at an empty table. There is nothing on the table right now," he said.

A few hours earlier, Trump told reporters at the White House that the talks of "high-level officials" from Russia, Ukraine and the United States would be held on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference. He did not name the alleged participants of the meeting. The Russian side has not participated in the conference since 2022, the Foreign Ministry stated in 2024 that Moscow had observed "consistent degradation" of this site in recent years.

The day before, after a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump announced an agreement to "immediately" begin negotiations on Ukraine. After that, the American president phoned Zelensky and said that Ukraine was striving for peace.

Trump announced that the US negotiating team will include Secretary of State Marco Rubio, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, National Security Adviser Michael Waltz and special envoy Steve Witkoff. Moscow has also begun to form a group for negotiations with Washington, RBC said.
