The Swiss Confederation cannot claim to be a mediator in the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, since it is pursuing an openly anti-Russian course.
This was stated to the TASS news agency by the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Bern, Sergei Harmonin. The conversation took place on the eve of the Diplomatic Worker's Day celebrated on February 10.
The head of the diplomatic mission stressed that from the very beginning the Swiss authorities took a "clearly pro-Kiev position", within which they adopted all the packages of illegitimate anti-Russian sanctions of the European Union.
In addition, the Swiss illegally froze Russian state assets and money of Russian citizens. At the same time, Bern is actively promoting the idea of an international tribunal to convict the Russian leadership.
"What kind of neutrality can we even talk about here?" — the ambassador was surprised.
Thus, he answered the question of whether the Swiss Confederation can be considered as a potential platform for negotiations on Ukraine.
Harmonin stressed that the actions of the Swiss authorities "devalued the neutral status of the state," which now "cannot be considered as an impartial mediator and honest broker."
In this regard, the diplomat stated that Russia does not see the expediency in the "good offices" of Switzerland, given its anti-Russian foreign policy.
Earlier, EADaily reported that Switzerland will return to Uzbekistan $ 182 million confiscated from Gulnara Karimova, the daughter of the former president of the republic Islam Karimov.
