US President Donald Trump announced that great progress has been made in resolving the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
"We have made great progress in Russia, Ukraine, let's see what happens. But a lot of progress has been made. We have to stop this ridiculous war," he said.
Even before winning the presidential election, Trump has repeatedly said that the conflict on the Ukraine would never have started if he had been the head of the White House instead of Joe Biden. He also promised, if re-elected, to achieve a settlement of the crisis in just 24 hours. As Secretary of State Marco Rubio later explained, the American leader did not realize his plans, because this requires "hard work of diplomacy."
Last week, Trump announced that he was having a "very serious" discussion with Russia about ending the conflict. He said that he would talk with Vladimir Putin and, perhaps, achieve "something substantial."
