The work of the Belarusian nuclear power plant should be stopped. This is stated in a letter from the State Atomic Safety Inspectorate of Lithuania (VATESI) to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Belarus.
"Once again we urge to suspend the operation of power units No. 1 and 2 of the Belarusian NPP until all nuclear safety problems are eliminated... We see that both power units are currently stopped — it is reported that scheduled repairs are being carried out at power unit No. 1, but there is very little information about the reasons for the shutdown of power unit No. 2," the head of VATESI said Mikhailas Demchenka.
At the same time, the inspection is waiting for detailed information on "efforts to ensure the safety of the Belarusian NPP in accordance with the highest international safety standards."
The Belarusian NPP is located near the Lithuanian border and consists of two power units with a total capacity of 2400 MW. Lithuania has always opposed its construction, calling the station unsafe. In turn, Minsk has always stressed that Vilnius' claims lie in the political plane, and the station is recognized by the IAEA as safe.
