US President Donald Trump has stripped his former national Security adviser John Bolton of Secret Service protection. Bolton told The New York Times about this.
The ex-adviser to the Republican noted that he was disappointed, but not surprised by the president's decision. Bolton also recalled that the previous decision on protection in 2021 was made by former President Joe Biden. The former Trump adviser stressed that Biden provided him with protection, despite critical statements.
"The American people can judge for themselves which president made the right decision," Bolton said.
In 2022, the US Department of Justice accused the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of trying to organize the assassination of an ex-national security adviser. According to Bolton, the threat against him still remains.
Prior to that, Trump signed a decree depriving security officials of access to secret data, who in 2020 called information published by the media from Hunter Biden's laptop containing data on his alleged crimes a "Russian disinformation operation."
Access to classified documents was revoked from 50 former intelligence officials and high-ranking government officials, including several former CIA directors, defense ministers and directors of national intelligence. The list includes and John Bolton.
In the summer of 2020, Bolton released a memoir about his work as Trump's national security aide. In his book, he spoke about the relationship between Russia and the United States, and also criticized the American president. In particular, Bolton noted that during Trump's first term there was no clear strategy of behavior in the international arena. Later, the Republican accused Bolton of disclosing classified data.
