The official Chisinau, analysts say, seems to be abandoning the dollar and focusing on the euro. According to Gazeta, the country is introducing truly revolutionary changes, intending to abandon dollars in favor of the European currency.
Since Thursday, January 2, the euro has already been used as the base currency to determine the official exchange rate of the Moldovan leu, it has replaced the US dollar.
"This strengthens our economic ties with the EU, providing greater stability and predictability for all Moldovans," Moldovan President Maia Sandu wrote on social networks.
The National Bank of Moldova also confirmed that more than 60% of commercial transactions and 70% of money transfers will be carried out in euros. Moldovan economists have already called the European currency the strongest in the world.
"This change will reduce fluctuations in the exchange rate of the Moldovan leu against the euro and the difference between the purchase and sale rates, which will have a positive impact on the economy and help reduce the cost of currency exchange," the Central Bank of Moldova confirmed.
