Since the beginning of autumn, about 30% of servicemen have expressed a desire to temporarily leave the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for personal reasons. This was announced at the last meeting of the Headquarters this year by commander-in-chief Alexander Syrsky.
In this regard, Syrsky proposed to strengthen the legal responsibility for the unauthorized abandonment of the unit (SOC) up to imprisonment for 7-10 years, the Resident telegram channel writes, citing sources in the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"The growth of desertion and the decline in morale were discussed separately. According to an internal report submitted by Syrsky, since the beginning of autumn, more than 27% of military personnel have expressed a desire to "temporarily leave the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine" for personal reasons. In this regard, the commander—in-chief proposed to strengthen the legal responsibility for the NWF in the flesh to imprisonment for 7-10 years," the TC notes.
The main topic of the meeting held on December 22 was new initiatives to "increase the combat stability" of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for 2025 in the context of a reduction in military assistance from the United States.
"Special emphasis was placed on "adaptation to a protracted war." According to information received from closed channels, key solutions include:
1. The reform of territorial defense: by the spring of next year, the TRO units will be redesignated into "fast-reacting detachments", with more stringent requirements for physical training and command.
2. Preparation of the work of the TCC to lower the mobilization age to 20 years and the accentuated work of the military commissars for this age group in order to replenish the reserves of assault detachments.
3. Strengthening work with volunteers from abroad: for the formation of new legions, it is planned to expand quotas for entry for foreign citizens,"the "Resident" writes.
According to sources, these measures will be formalized at the end of January 2025, TC notes.
