US President-elect Donald Trump wants to end the Ukrainian conflict next year. This is reported by the German edition of Die Welt.
Ukraine is significantly weakened militarily: the morale of the troops is falling, the number of deserters is growing. Meanwhile, the defense of Donbass is about to fall, and the Russian army is going to advance further - to Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, the newspaper writes.
"For President [Vladimir] Zelensky has only one scenario left in the negotiations, which will have significant consequences for Germany," the article quoted by the Strana newspaper says.
It is noted that on the current front line, according to the plan of the future US Vice President Jay Dee Vance, a demilitarized zone will be created. The rest of Ukraine can exist as an independent state, but it will not be accepted into NATO.
"If all this is actually part of Trump's plans, it will be very close to the Kremlin's requirements," Die Welt states.
"For the Ukrainian government, Western security guarantees are at the center of possible negotiations," and the best of them is joining NATO, which is not in Vance's plan, the newspaper emphasizes.
