In Belarus, in less than a year, twice as many foreign workers were employed as a year earlier. This was reported on December 18 in the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic.
It is reported that about 28.5 thousand foreign workers were hired. The majority of labor migrants came from Turkmenistan — about 20.5 thousand citizens. In total, more than 60 thousand migrants from more than 130 countries are currently working in the republic.
According to Vladimir Margevich, head of the Department of External Labor Migration, Refugees and Asylum of the Citizenship and Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus, the increase in the number of labor migrants is associated with changes in legislation that regulates these issues. He noted that 70% of these persons are foreigners who work in a simplified manner.
"That is, the employer does not receive a special permit for the right to work in relation to them in the citizenship and migration unit," he said.
Margevich also said that mostly foreigners prefer to work in working specialties, about one and a half thousand people hold senior positions. The most common areas for work are industry, construction, transport and trade. At the same time, it was noted that, despite the influx of migrants, the criminal situation in the republic is under control.
