Mexico is drifting away from the US: Sheinbaum's reforms, China's investments and Putin's visit

Having won the presidential elections in Mexico, which took place on June 2, 2024, Claudia Sheinbaum continues her course towards fulfilling her election promises: the democratization of society and the independence of foreign policy from the wishes of official Washington. Recall that Sheinbaum won, almost twice ahead of her rival, opposition candidate Sochitl Galvez.

It should be noted that an invitation has already been sent to Russian President Vladimir Putin for the inauguration of Claudia Sheinbaum, which will take place on October 1. Despite the official protests of Ukraine. And the US attempts to influence the outcome of the elections in Mexico has so far led to the fact that Mexico is drifting away from the United States towards China, pouring billions of dollars into the Mexican economy, EADaily previously reported.

"In Mexico City, Washington is accused of financially supporting opposition NGOs through USAID and various foundations like Ford and Rockefeller. Mexico demands to stop foreign interference in its internal affairs," political analyst Malek Dudakov writes in the telegram channel.

The elected President of Mexico has actively taken up domestic reforms. The other day, according to La Radio del Sur, Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed her commitment to judicial reform in order to democratize it. The President of Mexico sees the root of the evil in the fact that when appointing judges, the criterion is not professional qualities, but family ties and nepotism.

The street protests, which were a reaction to Sheinbaum's initiatives, were led by law students. Some protest leaders were seen earlier in anti-government actions initiated by the pro-American opposition. Nevertheless, Sheinbaum, instead of suppressing protests, preferred the path of dialogue. The rebellious students were reminded that the democratization of the judicial system was one of the election promises and "this is what the people of Mexico want."

"People have decided that they want the reform of the judiciary and the election of judges, magistrates and ministers. Look at the polls," said President Sheinbaum, according to La Radio del Sur.

Earlier, the first female president in the history of Mexico announced the creation of the Ministry of Women's Affairs in the country.

"The Ministry of Women will be created with the aim of implementing policies and programs in favor of this sector of the population," Infobae quotes the elected president.

It should be noted that the problem of protecting the rights of Mexican women from gender inequality, including domestic violence, is extremely urgent.

The official Mexico City in the current difficult geopolitical conditions takes a balanced position, refusing to join the anti-Russian sanctions and continues to develop constructive cooperation with Russia. This was stated by the Russian Ambassador to Nikolai Sofinsky in Mexico on the air of the program "Living History" on the radio station Educacion.

"We appreciate that Mexico, pursuing its national interests, in the current very contradictory and difficult geopolitical conditions, takes a very balanced position, does not join the anti—Russian sanctions and continues to develop constructive cooperation with us," the diplomat said, adding that Russia, for its part, "is open to such cooperation in all areas."", reports TASS.
"Mexico is increasingly opening doors for partnership with China, for investments and mutually beneficial economic projects with China. Mexico does not deny business cooperation with the United States, its authorities are ready to cooperate with official Washington in the fight against crime, drug trafficking, education and healthcare. But Mexico will no longer be the backyard of the USA.
The position of a subordinate in dealing with the United States is not acceptable for our country. Only on equal terms!" — this is the tough position of the new President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum.

Obviously, official Washington will not give up Mexico without a fight. Moreover, to fight for supremacy over this territory, not only protest movements, information warfare tools, economic pressure, but also drug cartels will be involved, the threads from which lead to the corridors of US power.

"One of the most serious problems of Mexico is the endless wars waged by drug cartels, including for political influence in the country. Mexico has been on the list of countries with the highest murder rates for many years. Moreover, all segments of the population are becoming victims. Sheinbaum will have to deal with this problem as well. One thing is obvious: the United States can no longer claim a monopoly in Mexico. It is possible to compete with China, but the United States does not have the economic resources to defeat it. And most importantly — there is no unifying idea. Latin America is on the verge of global changes, including in terms of changing the vector of geopolitical attraction. And Mexico is no exception here," said political scientist Tatyana Poloskova.
