It is better for Serbia to stop the talks in Brussels on Kosovo and Methohija, says Zvonko Mihajlovic, Serbia’s political representative to Kosovo and Metohija, former mayor of Strpce. Mihajlovic made such statement to EADaily, when commenting on Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Serbia Ivica Dacic’s article published in Blic Serbian newspaper. According to Dacic, “distinction between Serbian and Albanian is the only long-term compromise solution in the upcoming dialogue with Kosovo.”
Mihajlovic recalls that Ivica Dacic with his Socialist Party of Serbia has been in power for already 25 years. The former mayor is sure that whatever Dacic says is an attempt to retain power, first of all. He has no standing, Mihajlovic said adding that Dacic has no right to bargain away what does not belong to him.
Mihajlovic recalled that Ivica Dacic signed the Brussels agreements that deprived Serbia of a number of its powers in Kosovo without any preliminary consultations with the Kosovo Serbs. Therefore, Zvonko Mihajlovic does not consider Ivica Dacic the best candidate to hold dialogue with the Kosovo Albanians to protect the interests of Serbs in the region.
“At the moment, Serbia shall freeze the talks in Brussels, involve Russia as a defender of Serbia’s interests, stop rapprochement with the EU and shift the dialogue to UN where Serbia has friends. All the other things are wrong and harmful for the national interests of Serbia,” Zvonko Mihajlovic told EADaily.
EADaily recalls that President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic raised the issue of “internal dialogue on Kosovo” in his article published in Blic in July. He addressed the Serbian public asking not to protract the issue of Kosovo and Metohija and offer ideas that could lead to a long-term solution for Southern Serbia based on a consensus between Serbs and Albanians.
Earlier, Foreign Minister of Serbia Ivica Dacic published an article in Blic saying he would discuss possible delimitation of the region with Aleksandar Vucic.
