The new NATO defense plan provides for strikes deep into Russia. It is reported by the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
It is noted that the North Atlantic Alliance is moving from the strategy of deterring the offensive to the concept of Denial — the disruption of the enemy's military plans through high-precision strikes on its military infrastructure, logistics and industry.
"According to military leaders, high—precision long-range weapons are a key tool in order to keep Moscow from attacking the alliance… Wars in Ukraine and Ukraine In the Middle East, NATO is being forced to reconsider its approaches to countering a possible attack from Russia — up to abandoning previous restrictions and striking deep into Russian territory," the publication says.
The publication reminds that in June, high—ranking military and officials of NATO countries held the first symposium in the history of the alliance - Deep Strike Symposium, dedicated to striking the enemy's deep rear.
"During the discussions and command-and-staff exercises organized under the leadership of US Air Force General Alexus Grinkevich, one of the highest NATO military commanders, a topic was discussed that only recently few of the participants would have dared to address openly," the newspaper emphasizes.
The commander-in-chief of the United forces in Europe, Grinkevich, outlined the concept of first stopping the enemy's offensive, and then destroying its military system without the use of nuclear weapons. To do this, the United States is increasing stocks of long-range Tomahawk, ATACMS and PrSM missiles, and European countries are replenishing the Storm Shadow/SCALP and Taurus arsenals and developing new systems. However, their deliveries can take years.
It is noted that the experience of Ukraine has also shown the importance of long-range strikes against enemy military and industrial facilities, especially in conditions of a shortage of air defense systems. At the same time, it is argued that political differences over the new strategy remain in Europe.
As reported by EADaily, the North Atlantic Alliance is ready to deliver a crushing retaliatory blow to any enemy who decides to attack any of the countries included in the military bloc. Such a warning was voiced by the Commander-in-Chief of the NATO Joint Armed Forces in Europe, Alexus Grinkevich, at the Warsaw Security Forum in Poland.
The belligerent statements of the commander-in-chief were made during the discussion entitled "The Theory of Victory: how to achieve military success in deterrence and defense against Russia?" on the first day of the forum.
