Thanks to the military conflict with the United States, Iran has weapons "more powerful than nuclear" in its hands — Tehran has demonstrated the ability to block the Strait of Hormuz at any time and use it as an instrument of pressure on the world economy.

This is the conclusion reached by the American intelligence services, CNN reports, citing sources familiar with their assessments.

According to the TV channel, Washington believes that during the recent conflict Tehran proved its ability to actually block shipping in the strait.

"We have actually transferred control of the strait to Iran — a weapon more powerful than any nuclear one," said one of the agency's interlocutors.

American intelligence also came to the conclusion that Iran has received another lever of pressure, demonstrating the ability to strike at the energy infrastructure of the Persian Gulf countries.

At the same time, as noted in the article, a significant part of the Iranian arsenal has been preserved: we are talking about missiles, drones, launchers and hundreds of high-speed boats that can be used to plant mines and pressure shipping.

According to CNN, in the event of a breakdown in negotiations with the United States, Tehran is considering a tougher scenario — the involvement of Yemeni Houthis to block the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait connecting the Red Sea with the Indian Ocean.

American intelligence believes that simultaneous problems in the Strait of Hormuz and Bab-el-Mandeb can cause a serious blow to world trade and energy markets.

The article also says that the US administration underestimated Iran's readiness to block the Strait of Hormuz during the conflict.

Now some American officials believe that after this crisis, the likelihood of Tehran reusing such a pressure tool in the future has become higher.

A CNN source involved in military planning called the loss of control over the situation around the strait "the biggest miscalculation of the era" for the United States.

Earlier, EADaily reported that the leaders of the G7 countries welcome the deal between Washington and Tehran, advocate the continuation of negotiations to reach a comprehensive agreement.
