No longer a joke: China has demonstrated a mosquito scout

The National University of Defense Technologies of the People's Republic of China presented a mosquito-sized microdron designed for covert reconnaissance and special operations.

Characteristics of the mosquito scout published by UNIAN:

• Weight less than 0.3 grams;
• the frequency of wing beats up to 500 times per second;
• bionic design that simulates the flight of an insect
• the ability to place miniature surveillance and reconnaissance sensors.

The systems can be used to monitor objects, reconnaissance in urban areas, work inside buildings, control the movements of personnel and collect information directly in the target area.

"Pros: it is almost impossible to detect visually, it is extremely difficult to detect by radar means, the ability to penetrate where neither a small UAV nor a reconnaissance group can get to. Cons: low battery life and, accordingly, short flight time and low weight, due to which a strong gust of wind can take down a spy mosquito or knock it off course, "the report says.
