In the Gotslav district of the Polish capital, a Ukrainian caught and killed a two-meter catfish that had been living in a local reservoir for more than 20 years. This is reported by local media.
The guards detained a 57-year-old citizen of Ukraine for illegal fishing, which took place on May 30.
"This man was fishing at a time when catfish fishing is still prohibited. In addition, we will talk about animal cruelty, since he transported the caught fish without access to water, which is why the catfish died," said Warsaw police inspector Joanna Vengzyniak.
It turned out that the poacher used a water bike to throw gear in the middle of the pond. After a successful catch, he hid the loot in the trunk of the car and disappeared. It is noted that the huge catfish lived in the city pond for over 20 years and has become a real local landmark. Polish fishing enthusiasts had previously caught him three times, but always let him go back.
As a reminder, catfish fishing in Poland is strictly prohibited from January 1 to May 31. Now the violator faces up to three years in prison.
