The Paris police are investigating more than a hundred allegations of rape of children aged 3-4 years, as well as child abuse and physical abuse by school attendants during lunch breaks, daytime sleep and extracurricular activities. This was reported by the British The Guardian, confirmed by prosecutors.
"We are conducting investigations in 84 preschool institutions, about 20 primary schools and about 10 kindergartens," said the state prosecutor of Paris, Laure Beccuot.
According to the lawyers, the investigations include the alleged rape of children aged 3-4 years.
"This is a huge scandal. The public school system is a source of pride in our country, but, unfortunately, today in France it cannot be said that the public service guarantees the safety of children," said the lawyer of the three families from Paris, who filed complaints with the police about alleged child abuse, Florian Lastell.
It is noted that we are talking about school attendants who are responsible for children during lunch, breaks, daytime sleep and extracurricular activities, sometimes spending more time with kids than with teachers. They are hired by the mayor's office or local authorities, often without training or professional diplomas, increasingly on a casual basis, many receive hourly pay. Kindergarten attendance in France is mandatory from the age of three, and those on duty look after children between the ages of three and eleven.
Parents all over France accuse school attendants of shouting at children, pushing them, dragging them by the hair, refusing food or, conversely, forcing them to eat until they vomit, sexually assaulted or raped.
In particular, lawyer Louis Kaye, representing two Parisian families, filed a complaint about the alleged rape of kindergarten children in 2025. In one case, a three—year-old girl was allegedly raped by a school attendant at an institution in the west of Paris, and in another, the same attendant, who was transferred to another school after complaints of physical violence against children, raped a three-year-old boy.
The school duty sector in France is a "disaster" and a "national disaster," the lawyer said.
According to the newspaper, next week a trial will begin in Paris in the case of a school attendant accused of sexually abusing five children aged 3-5 years in the kindergarten of the 11th district, and in June a verdict is expected in the case of a 47-year—old school attendant accused of sexually abusing nine ten-year-old girls in Paris.
From January to April, the Paris City Hall suspended 78 school attendants, including 31 suspected of sexual abuse.
