Flying drones with explosives into Finland is a serious signal of problems in the country's surveillance system. This was stated in an interview with Helsingin Sanomat by the head of the National Defense unit, Brigadier General Markku Viitasaari.

Such a situation cannot be considered normal, he noted.

In Finland, the fourth fallen Ukrainian drone has been found in a short time. He fell the day before in Iitti — with an equipped warhead, which local security forces destroyed on the spot. The victims were avoided only because he fell about a kilometer from residential buildings, the newspaper reports.

According to the general, Finland's airspace control capabilities are "sufficient", taking into account the threat level and available resources, but they cannot be called good if UAVs enter the country unnoticed.

Such incidents may be repeated, as UAV attacks in the region will continue, but it is impossible to completely close the sky from such threats - no country in the world has been able to do this.

Viitasaari recommended investing more effectively in detection and warning systems in order to notify the population in time. And attempts to shoot down drones, according to the general, can sometimes be more dangerous than their fall.

It is noted that the Finnish authorities are already discussing a possible increase in funding for anti-drone measures, including strengthening the resources of the border service.

Recall, on April 1, the head of the Finnish Defense Ministry, Antti Hyakkianen, told Kiev that the invasion of UAVs into NATO airspace was unacceptable. "Last night I discussed with my Ukrainian counterpart Mikhail Fedorov the situation with... drones that flew into the territory of Finland. My message to the Ukrainian minister was that UAVs should not fly into the territory of Finland or other NATO countries," Hyakkianen wrote on the social network, quoted by RIA Novosti.

As EADaily reported, earlier, Finnish Defense Minister Antti Hyakkianen said that several drones had flown into the country. Prime Minister Petteri Orpo called the incident a violation of territorial integrity and noted that in connection with the incident, the issue of convening a meeting of President Alexander Stubb and the government is being considered.

The representative of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Georgy Tikhy, said that Kiev apologized to Helsinki for the Ukrainian drones that fell on the territory of the country.
