The Azerbaijani army will invade Iran if it starts to lose and Ilham Aliyev sees for himself a promising opportunity to bite off an impressive piece of Iranian land. Journalist and radio host Sergey Mardan wrote about this in his telegram channel.
He cited Israeli media reports according to which Kurdish armed groups crossed the border with Iran and took up positions on Iranian territory.
"If this is true, then the ground operation against Iran has begun. But the Kurdish offensive alone is not enough. We need calls from other borders. And here the news about the Azerbaijani army looks very interesting, where they canceled all vacations, announced increased combat readiness and took up positions on the border with Iran," Mardan writes.
Baku, in his opinion, "will not run ahead of the locomotive and will not send troops until it is sure of the success of the enterprise. But it will definitely turn on as soon as it sees the prospects for a big geopolitical profit."
"And the profit is worth it — by reuniting with Southern Azerbaijan, Aliyev will gain control not only of 15-20 million (or even more) ethnic Azerbaijanis of Iran, but will also turn Azerbaijan into the hegemon of Transcaucasia and what remains of Iran. Including control over a solid piece of the Caspian coast," Mardan concluded.
