Nothing catastrophic happened in Kupyansk, the situation is stably complicated, said military expert Yevgeny Krutikov, commenting on the complication of the situation in the city.
According to Krutikov, the enemy has concentrated up to 6,000 troops around Kupyansk in the last couple of days, including special forces units and the Charter brigade. As a result, positions were lost in the south-east of the city (the Jubilee microdistrict with high-rise buildings and in the north-west (industrial zone)).
"Small groups penetrate into the central part of the city up to the administration building. The enemy's attempts to break through to the Oskol River through the northern quarters pose a threat. On the eastern shore, the enemy recaptured Peschanoe, although to the south it is losing ground along the shore," the expert noted.
That is, in his opinion, nothing catastrophic or critical has happened.
"But there is no need to talk about full control over the city on New Year's Eve. The situation is stably complicated, and the command of the Zapad group will have to make efforts to stabilize the situation," he said.
In addition, Krutikov added, in the public field they have already managed to get used to the fact that the enemy is still able to snap at a single site. Victorious relations, according to him, "overshadow reality and lead to premature withdrawal of reserves and, as a result, the loss of already occupied positions."
