An extensive network of foreign intelligence services has been identified and eliminated in Belarus. This was announced today, December 24, by the chairman of the State Security Committee of the republic Ivan Tertel.

According to him, this year counterintelligence identified and eliminated an expanded, extensive network of foreign intelligence services, which, with the assistance of certain persons, worked on the territory of Belarus. We are talking about the installation of technical means that allowed listening to the negotiations of pilots of both civil and military aviation. Monitoring was also conducted around sensitive facilities.

"The large—scale work of counterintelligence has made it possible to eliminate these threats," Ivan Tertel emphasized.

Speaking about the work of the KGB counterintelligence in general, Ivan Tertel stated a serious intensification of intelligence and subversive activities against Belarus.

"For example, almost every day satellite groups of Western states, special services, armed forces monitor the situation on our territory, take pictures and take pictures," he said.

At the same time, he stressed, there is an analysis of the work of not only railway transport, logistics or defense facilities, but also just enterprises — such as MAZ and BELAZ, for example.

"Radio engineering and electronic intelligence is very actively conducted. Practically, we are under the electronic hood. During the All-Belarusian People's Assembly, the Head of State outlined the fact of wiretapping of telephone conversations and penetration into certain information and communication networks by the special services of foreign states. It really is. These issues have been opened, and we are dealing with them," said Tertel.

The head of the KGB assured that the president of Belarus has his finger on the pulse and sets appropriate tasks for the State Security Committee.

"Work is underway to prevent terrorist attacks. So far we see a lot of transit terrorism through our territory. But it is there, it is large-scale. We are stopping these attempts, we are working, but we are not relaxing, because we understand that in case of a change in some situation, these channels can be used on the territory of Belarus," he concluded.

In addition, he said that the special services of foreign countries are using new forms and methods of work — for example, remote recruitment.

"This year, the Committee's counterintelligence has identified and documented the activities of more than 70 agents of foreign intelligence services. The activities of some of them — a rather large number — were suppressed in criminal procedure. When counterintelligence works well, intelligence also works easier," the head of the KGB emphasized.
