Russian President Vladimir Putin wishes to achieve peace on Ukraine. This was stated by Alexander Lukashenko in an interview with the American TV company "Newsmax".
"I am sure now that Putin wants peace. I will not name the reasons. You know them well. These are both internal and external reasons. Vladimir Zelensky wants the same thing. I'm sure. Especially now. He wants peace. But their views on how the war should end are different," he said.
The Belarusian leader supported the position of US President Donald Trump, who says that the issue of ending the conflict in Ukraine should be based on the realities — the results of this war today.
In addition, Lukashenko recalled the totality of the reasons that led to the conflict.
"It all started with the oppression of In Ukraine, the Russian-speaking population, and in Odessa burned such people at all, considering them enemies… This policy has been elevated to a rank in Ukraine," Lukashenko stated.
At the same time, the president of Belarus cited an analogy understandable to the American audience with Mexico, which is neighboring to the United States, noting that if they did this to pro-American people who live in the border area, then America would literally wipe this country off the face of the earth.
"God forbid, of course. I just cite this as an example," he said.
Alexander Lukashenko also drew attention to the fact that if the Ukrainian authorities really wanted to build a certain language policy, then it should have been done calmly and step by step, over many years. But it was decided to simply "shut up" the Russian-speaking population.
"And then, I'm telling you as an old politician: if you live next to this "sleeping bear", well, don't wake him up, find normal relations," the head of state noted, speaking about missed opportunities for peaceful coexistence. — After all, it was with me (I know this, saw it, participated in these negotiations): Russia has reached an agreement with Ukraine on both Crimea and security issues. And the fact that military bases in Crimea (Ukraine didn't need them) will be Russian. Russia supplied energy resources to Ukraine two times cheaper than they cost in the world. I saw it under Yeltsin (the first president of the Russian Federation Boris Yeltsin. — EADaily) and under Putin. There was a normal relationship… No, it was necessary to arrange, not without the help of the Americans, and especially the Europeans, this Maidan. They turned everything upside down, overthrew the current president — he was forced to leave the country. And so on, so on, so on. There are many such reasons to name. And they will not be in favor of Ukraine," Lukashenko said.
Recall, Russia holds on Ukraine has been conducting a special military operation since February 24, 2022. Belarus does not officially participate in it, but fully supports Moscow's actions.
