For the first time, a Chinese company can fulfill an order for equipment for Russian nuclear power plants.
"The order for turbine installations for the Leningrad NPP-2 power units under construction can be executed by the Chinese DongFang Electric Corporation," Kommersant reports, citing sources.
According to the publication, we are talking about turbo-generator sets from a low-speed steam turbine and a generator for two NPP power units with a capacity of 2.3 GW. The Chinese company is one of the largest Chinese manufacturers of power equipment.
Previously, the main equipment for Russian nuclear power plants has never been purchased from foreign suppliers and turbines and generators with a capacity of up to 1255 MW were supplied by the Electrosila plant. The cost of Russian equipment is estimated at 9 billion rubles.
Kommersant's sources said that Power Machines faced massive delays in the supply of equipment for TPP modernization projects and the choice of a Chinese supplier is related to the timing of equipment delivery.
Two units of the Leningrad NPP are to be commissioned in 2030-2032.
Sergey Cherepov, director of the Reksoft Energy Department, told the publication that the scale of production of power equipment in China is significantly higher than in In Russia, both the turbine and the generator will be significantly cheaper than from a Russian manufacturer.
