Despite the obvious superiority of the Russian army in terms of experience and combat qualities, the compilers of the American Global Firepower 2025 rating put it in second place, and the US army, which has not won a single battle on its own over the past two centuries, and has also suffered defeats as part of coalitions, ranked first.

The rating takes into account more than 60 factors to determine the countries' power index (PowerIndex), including the number of military personnel, the financial base of the Armed Forces, logistical capabilities and geography. The maximum possible index is 0.0000. In 2025, the armies of 145 states were evaluated.
