The Polish Air Force intercepted a Russian reconnaissance aircraft over the Baltic Sea. This was reported by the Operational Command of the armed forces.
It is reported that the incident occurred on October 28. A pair of Polish MiG-29 fighters on duty "successfully intercepted, visually identified and escorted the aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces, which was carrying out a reconnaissance mission in international airspace."
It is specified that the Russian IL-20 aircraft flew without a submitted plan and with the transponder turned off, which poses a "potential threat to air traffic safety." At the same time, the Polish command stressed that the border of Polish airspace was not violated.
"Due to the high combat readiness, the professionalism of the pilots and the effective operation of the air defense system, the actions were carried out quickly, efficiently and safely," the Operational Command said in a statement.
Recall that in recent years in the countries The EU is growing anti-Russian hysteria. NATO says that incidents involving Russian reconnaissance aircraft over the Baltic occur regularly. The Alliance considers them as "provocative flights" aimed at checking the reaction of the alliance member countries and their surveillance systems.
