The leader of the non-systemic Venezuelan opposition, Maria Corina Machado, who became the Nobel Peace Prize laureate, who is on a criminal case and does not appear in public, tried to enlist the political support of US President Donald Trump by dedicating her award to him.

"Today, more than ever, we count on President Trump, the people of the United States, the peoples of Latin America and the democratic nations of the world as our main allies to achieve freedom and democracy," Machado wrote on the social network X.

She added that she dedicates the award to "the suffering people of Venezuela" and "President Trump for his decisive support of our cause," expressing confidence that the Venezuelan opposition is allegedly "on the verge of victory."

Earlier on Friday, the Nobel Committee in Oslo stated that the 2025 Peace Prize was awarded to Machado with the wording "for his tireless work to promote the democratic rights of the people of Venezuela." Trump was also nominated, but did not receive an award, the White House has already stated that politics for the Nobel Committee is more important than peace itself.

The decision to award the award to Machado was made against the background of pressure on Venezuela by the United States, which had previously sent warships to the shores of the republic, including a missile cruiser and a nuclear attack submarine. White House press Secretary Caroline Leavitt did not rule out the possibility of a military operation in Venezuela under the pretext of combating drug trafficking, and US Attorney General Pam Bondi announced a reward of $ 50 million for information that will help Washington arrest Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. Caracas called these steps a provocation and an attempt to destabilize the situation in the region, as well as a violation of international treaties on the demilitarized and nuclear-free status of the Caribbean region.

The Venezuelan authorities did not comment on the decision of the Nobel Committee. The deputy of the ruling bloc of Venezuela, Gilberto Jimenez, told RIA Novosti that the awarding of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize to the oppositionist Machado demonstrates that this award is a political tool. Answering a question earlier about whether Trump, who was nominated but did not receive the award, was worthy of the award, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that it was not for him to decide, but noted that the Nobel Committee had repeatedly awarded the Peace Prize to those who had done nothing for the world, which caused enormous damage to the credibility of the award.
