All new territories are "now part of Russia", there is no chance of revising the status quo. This was stated in an interview with the Serbian edition of Politika by former Pentagon adviser retired Colonel Douglas McGregor.
This is how he answered the question of whether concessions from Russia are possible for the sake of a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.
"Since NATO countries have neither the will nor the ability to change this reality, there is no chance of reconsidering the status quo," McGregor explained, quoted by TASS.
The Colonel doubts that a reliable peace agreement can be reached under the existing conditions.
"The Ukrainian regime is not a reliable negotiator. Moscow cannot count on a stable contractual peace with the current governments of the United States, Britain, France and Germany," he explained.
However, according to him, "the governments in London, Paris and Berlin are already connected to life support devices and will be replaced," and they "may be replaced by nationalist governments that will not be interested in continuing enmity with Russia." As an example, he cited Slovakia and Hungary, which will probably be followed by other Eastern European countries over time.
The outcome of the current conflict is already a foregone conclusion, he is sure, since military assistance to Kiev from the United States is declining, and European countries have neither the resources nor the support of society to continue the war. At the same time, "NATO is quietly falling apart."
European countries will soon realize that they need to take care of their own defense and create new security systems based on regional and cultural interests, the colonel believes. As for the United States, Washington, in his opinion, "should focus on internal affairs and events in the Western Hemisphere," since the American people "are increasingly demanding changes in US foreign and defense policy."
