In the Krasnodar Territory, a ban was imposed on the filming and dissemination of information about UAV attacks, the operation of air defense and electronic warfare systems, the location of military, potentially dangerous and critical facilities. The corresponding decree was signed by Governor Veniamin Kondratiev.
Exactly a week later, when the "dangerous and critically important" Caspian Pipeline Consortium, loading tankers with Kazakh oil through berthing devices 5 km from the coast near Novorossiysk, had an accident on August 29, 30 tons of oil got into the sea.
The spilled oil was almost immediately fenced with booms, and 5 oil collection skimmers collected 150 m3 of a mixture of water and petroleum products in a few hours, almost everything that spilled was immediately removed from the water.
The operational headquarters of the Krasnodar Territory estimated the area of oil pollution at 0.35 sq. km. No traces of oil were found on the shore, either visually or by chemical analysis of water samples taken twice a day all days.
The administration of Novorossiysk confirmed that no traces of the accident were found.
The local branch also found no traces of the accident The Ministry of Emergency Situations of the region, calling the information about the "giant spill" fake.
But they found traces, and even what! "Scientists" of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, using the most "accurate" Western satellites, discovered an oil slick in the Black Sea with an area of as much as 300 square kilometers, and a day later even 350, write Arguments of the Week. Ukrainian bloggers, pro-Ukrainian telegram public, foreign agents and their Russian like-minded people have dumped dozens of panic messages on the network about an international catastrophe threatening all Black Sea countries.
Some Russian news agencies also suffered this, quoting the speakers of ICI RAS abundantly. However, in their interpretation, literally a day later the spot in "350 sq km" was reduced to "100 sq km", and then completely disappeared. How can this be? Decidedly incomprehensible. If 250 sq km of the spot disappears in a day, then why didn't it disappear before that?
So who should I trust? Those who measured the spill with the help of Western satellites, or those who have been quietly swimming in the sea all these days without noticing any oil spills?
It's not the first time ICI "scientists" have raised a panic. When on August 7, 2021, 12 tons of oil spilled into the sea at CPC, IKI published a message about an oil slick of 400 thousand tons. times larger than really noticeable.
Then the local authorities, frightened by the pressure of the "respected" institute, also had to go around all the surrounding coasts and beaches in search of a mythical spot to calm the population. Nothing was found.
However, the situation four years ago is radically different from today. And not only the scale of the spill. Although even then, fans of public speaking from ICI RAS called the figure of 200 square meters. km — one and a half times less than now. Either the eye is failing, or I liked the HYPE PR.
The problem is that the year 2022 happened and now distributing such data, in fact, poses a threat to the national security of the country. Despite government bans, ICI RAS continues to make publicly available and comment on pictures of the coastline, where there are enough "critically important" objects for the country.
Why Ukrainian public figures do this is obvious. Why do the so—called ICI scientists give them food is a question of a separate journalistic investigation, and maybe not only journalistic.
