Helsinki's policy gives every reason for Moscow to reconsider its refusal to demand compensation for damage caused by the actions of the Finns during the Second World War. This was stated by Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev.
In the TASS column "The New Finnish Doctrine: stupidity, lies, Ingratitude," Medvedev wrote that after joining NATO, the Finnish authorities began to flout previously signed agreements, including the defense articles of the Paris Peace Treaty of 1947 and the articles on the refusal to use armed forces outside its territory of the 1992 Treaty on the Foundations of Relations with the Russian Federation..
"Such revisionism must be severely suppressed," Medvedev said, adding that otherwise the question arises about the validity of these treaties themselves.
"In other words, there is no military-political component of the agreement, which means that there is no refusal to close compensatory historical issues and a clear statement of the moral responsibility of the current Finnish government for the actions of the ancestors," he said.
The Deputy Chairman of the Security Council drew attention to the fact that the $ 300 million of reparations included in the 1947 Agreement, of which $ 226.5 million was actually paid, were from Russia a gesture of goodwill not appreciated by today's generations.
"These funds obviously do not cover all the damage that Finland has done to us. The Supreme Court of Karelia estimated it at 20 trillion rubles. We have every reason to do so ipso jure (by virtue of the law itself). Especially against the background of inflating anti—Russian militaristic hysteria in Finland, backed up by saber-rattling," he stressed.
