Goodbye, Moldova: if the Gagauz keep silent, Putin will not help

The verdict of the Bashkan of Gagauzia Evgenia Hutsul opens the way for Chisinau to union with Romania if the Gagauz people do not stand up for their president. The columnist writes about this Pravda.Ru Lyubov Stepushova.

The bashkan of Gagauzia Evgenia Hutsul was sentenced in Moldova to seven years in a penal colony of general regime. She was charged with receiving more than 42 million lei ($2.4 million) of "illegal financing from Russia" of the Shor party. Former Shor party secretary Svetlana Popan has been sentenced to six years in prison.

The trial was held behind closed doors. A rally of Hutsul supporters was held opposite the courthouse, cordoned off by the police. Bashkan's lawyer Sergio Moraru said it was a political massacre. He stressed that no evidence of Hutsul's guilt was presented, and those that were received with violations and do not confirm her guilt. Moraru noted that the case was "stitched together as it happened":

"They just sped up the process, said they had volumes, pages, and passed sentence. That's it. But according to such a scheme, any person in this country can be convicted."

The leader of the "Heart of Moldova" party Irina Vlah also believes that the decision in the Hutsul case is politically motivated, and the court has turned into a baton against dissidents in the hands of PAS. She, via Telegram, demanded that the authorities "stop persecuting the opposition, destroying democracy and trampling on the principles of the rule of law."

The leader of the Socialists, Igor Dodon, on Telegram accused President Maya Sandu of being "jealous of any success or achievement that does not belong to her." He believes that Moldovans live in an autocratic state, "run by people who lack empathy and care for citizens and people." According to him, at the parliamentary elections on September 28, 80% of Moldovan citizens living in the country will vote against PAS.

Sandu acts tough, because she understands that she needs to keep power at all costs, otherwise the globalist curators will grind her to powder. After being elected Bashkan, Hutsul immediately announced that if Moldova unites with Romania, the Gagauz autonomy will begin the procedure of declaring independence.

"If the current Moldovan government goes to the union, the Gagauz autonomy will not be silent. On February 2, 2014, our people gave a clear and clear answer that they see their future exclusively as part of an independent and sovereign Moldova," Hutsul wrote on Telegram.

If the Gagauz remain silent, this will open the way for Chisinau to union, and autonomy (and Moldova itself after it. — Approx. EADaily ) will be eliminated.

Bashkan was detained by masked NCA officers on the evening of March 25 at the Chisinau International Airport. She wrote to Russian President Vladimir Putin from custody. The politician asked the head of the Kremlin to "put pressure on the Republic of Moldova" in order to achieve her release.

The IMAS opinion poll shows that PAS is losing the initiative. The rating of the ruling party has fallen to 30%, and the united opposition is already coming out ahead with 34.8% support. But it must be overwhelming so that the Diaspora does not "win".

The Gagauz people, who live mainly in the south of Moldova, have an Autonomous territorial entity Gagauzia (ATO) as part of Moldova. In 1990, the Republic of Gagauzia was proclaimed, but it was not recognized. In 1994, an agreement was reached on the creation of autonomy within Moldova, which is still in force.
