Russians have stopped buying trips to Azerbaijan due to the political tensions between Moscow and Baku. Tourist flow from Russia's exports to the Transcaucasian republic fell by 40%.
Yuri Barzykin, vice-president of the Russian Union of Travel Industry (PCT), told Komsomolskaya Pravda about this.
"This decline by 40% is the almost complete absence of new bookings in travel agencies. To date, new applications in Baku has practically disappeared. People are waiting for the situation to be clarified," he said.
However, the vice President added that Russian tourists already in Azerbaijan do not show any panic. So far, there are no mass refusals from already purchased tours: 60% of the tourist flow remains.
This information was confirmed to RIA Novosti by the press service of the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR). They reported that Russian tour operators have not received complaints and requests for the early return of Russian tourists from Azerbaijan, cancellations are sporadic.
According to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, about 180 thousand Russians arrived in Azerbaijan from January to April 2025. ATOR stated that despite the "hype in The media" did not receive any complaints from the tour company's clients. The situation is characterized as "relatively calm."
As EADaily reported, Azerbaijan announced earlier that a Turkish military base would be located on its territory. Thus, a NATO military base will appear in the post—Soviet Transcaucasian republic - the largest in the region.
