The European Commission has called on countries The EU should reduce the use of water resources as soon as possible and as much as possible by 2030. All because of the lack of water caused by global warming, as reported by AFP.
"Already today, 30% of European lands face water shortages every year (...). Our future depends on how we manage water resources today," said European Environment Commissioner Jessica Rosvall.
The European Union has presented a strategy to strengthen water security. In figures, the Commission cites France's goal to reduce water abstraction by 10% by 2030, both from groundwater and surface water.
Commissioner Rosvall also assured that the figure of 10% is "the lowest possible figure." Depending on the Member States, this may include reducing fences or improving infrastructure to prevent leaks.
