Kazakhstan is preparing to repel the invasion of locusts. Prime Minister of the Republic Olzhas Bektenov instructed to intensify measures to combat the voracious insect in the southern regions. This is reported by IA "Kazinform".
According to the Minister of Agriculture Aidarbek Saparov, the spread of herd locust pests on an area of 2.1 million hectares is projected this year. 7.1 billion tenge (1.1 billion rubles) was allocated from the republican budget for the fight.
As the portal informs gazeta.uz Hordes of locusts are already attacking agricultural land in Uzbekistan. As of May 10, the spread of the harmful insect was detected on 267.2 thousand hectares of agricultural land, of which 244.5 thousand hectares were subjected to chemical treatment. As of May 11, another 12.3 thousand hectares were processed in the Shurchinsky district of the Surkhandarya region.
