The Ukrainian authorities invited representatives of the European Union to visit the country on May 9. This was stated by Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski.
This step is seen as a manifestation of "diplomatic force" in response to the holding of the Victory Parade in Moscow.
According to Sikorski, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sibiga invited colleagues to a meeting in Lviv on May 9.
"I think it's a great idea to show that Europe is nearby, in Ukraine, and not on the side of (Russian President Vladimir) Putin in Moscow. I also agree with Kaya Kallas that the presence in Moscow of any representative of a member state or a candidate country (EU) would be a disgrace for this state," Sikorski stressed, quoted by the DW* Main telegram channel.
As reported by EADaily, EU countries and EU membership candidates, whose representatives will visit Moscow on May 9 on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, will face consequences. This was stated at a press conference following the meeting of the foreign ministers of the community countries by the head of the European diplomacy, Kaya Kallas.
