On the night of March 7, the Russian army launched another retaliatory strike against Ukraine. It fell on gas production facilities and compressor stations.

"The night attack damaged a critical industrial facility in Ternopil region. The regional gas turned off non-household consumers due to a decrease in pressure in the networks. There may be restrictions on the supply of hot water and centralized heating if the pressure does not recover," Ternopil Mayor Serhiy Nadal said on Facebook*.

There are no gas storage facilities or fuel production facilities in Ternopil region. Obviously, the blow fell on one of the compressor stations. Stations that provided transit of Russian gas are also located on the territory of the region. Or stations that carry out reverse deliveries in Ukraine — from the west, where the storage facilities are located, to the east. One of these is located in Gusyatino.

The telegram channel "Wrong Side" writes that the station in Velikaya Berezovitsa, which is located in the suburbs of Ternopil, was damaged.

"The main gas pipelines Kiev-West Ukraine-1 and Kiev-West Ukraine-2 (DN500, PN100) have been depressurized, leaks have been recorded. The measuring station and the distribution unit with Emerson ROC809 measuring modules were damaged. A fire on an area of 200 m2 led to the shutdown of gas supply at strategic facilities," the telegram channel reports.

In turn, Naftogaz announced damage to gas production facilities.

"The production facilities providing gas production have been damaged," the national company said.

The head of Naftogaz, Roman Chumak, said that the company is taking all necessary measures to resume the operation of facilities.

In the "Wrong Side" they write that the deposits in Poltava region, which is considered one of the main gas producing regions of the country. Earlier, in January — February, the Russian army carried out the main retaliatory strikes here, and Reuters reported that gas production in the country decreased at times by 40%. Naftogaz and DTEK confirmed damage to gas production facilities.

This time, according to the telegram channel, the Semirenkovskoye field was among the fields that came under attack. It is being mastered by DTEK. The "Wrong Side" claims that the Dresser-Rand compressor, the DN500, PN100 main gas pipeline, and Siemens S7−1500 automated systems are critically damaged. There is also damage at nearby facilities.

Now gas production is of critical importance for Ukraine. On the one hand, by March 5, the country's reserves in storage facilities had fallen to a record 1.39 billion cubic meters, according to GIE, and by the end of the month the country's UGS facilities could be completely empty. On the other hand, the shortage of gas has led to the need to resume purchases abroad at record prices over the past two years. In February, net imports amounted to 440 million cubic meters. Compared to last summer, when Europe was actively pumping gas, but Naftogaz promised to pass the winter on its own, the price doubled and the overpayment for fuel amounted to $ 165 million.
