German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, commenting on the contacts between Russia and the United States on the settlement between Moscow and Kiev, urged "to realize the reality of what the actions and statements of the US administration mean for Ukraine, Europe and the whole world."
"Inaction would mean endangering the security of our country and our continent. I will not allow this," he wrote on the social network X.
Scholz said that the Bundestag should make a decision as soon as possible, according to which the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine and its "serious consequences for the security of Germany and Europe will be regarded as an emergency situation." This will make it possible to direct additional expenses to support Kiev outside the federal budget, he noted.
Since February 2022, Germany has allocated € 44 billion to help Ukraine, the country is in second place after the United States in terms of support for Kiev among the countries of the world. The Russian authorities condemn other countries for sending weapons to Ukraine.
Scholz added that he agrees with Trump's desire to end hostilities as soon as possible, but stressed that Germany "will never support a dictated peace."
"We will also not agree with any decision that will lead to the separation of European and American security," he said.
According to the Chancellor, the victory of Russia or the collapse of Ukraine will not lead to peace, but, on the contrary, "will endanger peace and stability in Europe, and far beyond Ukraine."
At the same time, the chancellor called the decision of US President Donald Trump to hold a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin correct, noting that he had repeatedly spoken with him before.
"It is important to convey to him our expectations regarding a just peace in Ukraine and a return to the European peace order," Scholz said.
The presidents of Russia and the United States had a telephone conversation on Wednesday, it lasted almost an hour and a half. According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, the leaders discussed issues related to the exchange of Russian and US citizens, as well as the settlement of the situation on the Ukraine. Putin and Trump agreed to continue personal contacts, including the organization of a personal meeting.
