BRICS is dead. This statement was made by US President Donald Trump during a conversation with journalists at the White House, RIA Novosti reports.
According to the American leader, the association died after his threats to impose duties against the BRICS countries if they create a currency alternative to the US dollar.
"BRICS was created for a bad purpose. And most of these people don't want that. They don't even want to talk about it now. They are afraid to talk about it because I told them that if they want to play games with a dollar, then they will be charged a 100% tariff the day they mention that they want to do it. And they'll come back and say, "We're begging you, we're begging you not to do this." BRICS is dead," Trump said.
Earlier it was reported that the BRICS countries discussed the possibility of expanding settlements in national currencies and creating a common currency within the bloc. However, there are no concrete decisions on this issue yet.
