US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation. The American leader said this in an interview with the New York Post.
"I'd rather not say anything," Trump replied when asked about the length of the conversation.
The US president shared his impression that Putin "really cares" about the death of soldiers on the battlefield.
"He wants people to stop dying," Trump said.
He also announced the existence of a concrete plan to end the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and expressed the hope that it would be possible to implement it quickly.
"There is such a terrible war in Ukraine. I want to end this damn thing," the US president added.
"Let's hold these meetings. They want to meet. People are dying every day. Young beautiful soldiers are dying. Young men like my sons," Trump said, referring to National Security adviser Mike Waltz, who was nearby in the president's office on board No. 1.
The NYP article also says that US Vice President James David Vance will meet with Vladimir Zelensky at the Munich Security Conference, which will be held next week from February 14 to 16.
