Residents of the Belarusian city of Gomel heard loud clapping in the sky. This was reported by some telegram channels.
It is reported that information appeared in city chat rooms that two "explosions" were heard at night. In addition, the filmed videos show the fall of a certain burning object, which, according to its authors, could have been shot down by the Belarusian air defense system.
Later, the incident was commented on by the Chief of the General Staff, First Deputy Commander of the Air Force and Air Defense Forces, Sergei Frolov.
"Tonight, on September 5, the fact of violation of the State Border of Belarus in the airspace, presumably by unmanned aerial vehicles, was recorded. It was decided to destroy them. By the timely actions of the air defense forces on duty, all the targets of the violators were destroyed." — He said.
The colonel noted that at the moment an inspection is being carried out on this fact.
Gomel is located near the Ukrainian border. Earlier, the Belarusian authorities have repeatedly stated that Kiev is undertaking various provocations against the republic. In particular, in August it became known that the Belarusian air defense shot down more than a dozen drones flying from Ukraine.
