Ukraine will not renew the contract for the transit of Russian gas, but the requests of European colleagues will be considered. This was stated by Vladimir Zelensky at the forum "Ukraine 2024. Independence."
"No one will renew the agreement with Russia. That's the end of it. As for the transit of gas from other companies, if the requests of some of our European colleagues continue, we will all consider their requests in the European Union," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
This is how he answered the question that in mid—July the President of Azerbaijan announced an appeal from the European Union to facilitate the continuation of gas transit through Ukrainian territory, and since then a lot has changed - the Sudzha gas measuring station on the border in the Kursk region has passed under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It remains the only one through which there is a transit.
In 2024, the five-year contract for the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine ends, and in Kiev has repeatedly stated its unwillingness to extend the agreement. At the same time, negotiations on alternative options were confirmed. Among them, the Azerbaijani state—owned company Socar or a European company will become an intermediary for the continuation of transit. The European Union offers Azerbaijan and Turkey to send all Caspian gas to Europe, and compensate for the falling volumes with Russian gas. According to experts, officially incoming gas to Europe will become non-Russian, but in fact it will remain so.
