The German Foreign Ministry provides consular support to Rico Krieger, who was sentenced to exceptional punishment in Belarus for terrorist crimes. This was announced today, July 27, by the German Foreign Ministry.
"We are providing intensive consular support to the said prisoner," said department spokeswoman Catherine Deschauer.
According to her, the German Foreign Ministry does not comment on the topic of prisoner exchange.
Recall, a German citizen was detained in October 2023 in Belarus and a criminal case was opened against him, including under criminal articles of a terrorist nature. He was convicted under six articles of the Criminal Code and found guilty of committing a terrorist act, mercenary activities, cooperation with the special service of a foreign state, involving the commission of actions to the detriment of the national security of Belarus. According to the totality of the crimes committed, the Minsk Regional Court sentenced him to the death penalty. After the verdict was announced, Krieger gave an interview to the Belarusian state media, during which he stated that Germany did not want to contact Minsk on his case.
