64 people reportedly killed in fire at Kemerovo shopping mall

The certain number of people killed in a fire at a Kemerovo shopping mall is still unknown. At 08:37, the spokesperson for the Russian Investigation Committee Svetlana Petrenko announced that the number of people whose death is confirmed has reached 53. 64 people are reported to be missing. Unofficial reports claim that the number of victims is 69.

Governor of Kemerovo Region Aman Tuleyev announced that families of victims of the fire will have 1mn RUR compensations.

Four people, including the tenant of the unit where the fire supposedly started, have been detained and interrogated under a criminal procedure filed on the case.

Russian Emergency Situations Minister Vladimir Puchkov has departed for Kemerovo. At a briefing with Puchkov and Governor Tuleyev, it was announced that 10 people suffered from the fire, including two children, are in hospitals now. 34 individuals underwent medical examination and went home after having necessary medical assistance.

The building of the Zimnyaya Vishnya shopping mall where the disaster occurred is still being searched for victims.

Due to very high temperatures, the frame of the building deflected which makes the search-and-rescue operation even more complicated. 154 individuals and 37 machinery units are involved in the operation.
