Armenia and Azerbaijan are friendly countries for Iran, and Tehran hopes to be witness of a stable peace in the region, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has announced at a news conference after a meeting with his Armenian counterpart Serzh Sargsyan in Yerevan.
As the Iranian president noted, the conflict must be settled by peaceful means only.
In turn, the Armenian president informed that he briefed Rouhani on the efforts taken by Armenia and OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs to secure progress in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement.
“We highly appreciate Iran’s position on the purely peaceful settlement of the Karabakh issue. We have confirmed that the Nagorno-Karabakh problem cannot be solved by an armed way. We also stressed inadmissibility of any steps aimed at deteriorating the situation or disseminating the destabilization in the region,” Sargsyan said.
