China has created the world's first microwave weapon capable of disrupting the operation of satellites in low-Earth orbit, including Starlink. This is reported by the Hong Kong South China Morning Post.
At the Northwestern Institute of Nuclear Technology in Xi'an (Shanxi Province) there is an inconspicuous-looking device called TPG1000Cs. It could be the worst nightmare for Starlink, the newspaper claims.
TPG1000Cs is the world's first compact generator for high—power microwave weapons, capable of delivering an incredible power of 20 gigawatts in one minute. With a length of only 4 meters and a weight of 5 tons, it is compact enough to install it on trucks, warships, airplanes or even satellites.
According to some Chinese experts, ground-based microwave weapons with a capacity of more than 1 GW can seriously disrupt or even damage Starlink satellites operating in low Earth orbit. Until now, known similar systems could work continuously for no more than 3 seconds and were much more cumbersome.
